when you subtract a negative, you are using a double negative. A double negative can be considered positive. So when you Subtract a negative, change it to addition. -5 + 2 = ___ One way that I remembered this when I was in school was to consider each negative or subtraction symbol a stick. When two are close to eachother, you turn one and put them together. So two - equal one +. I hope I was helpful.

My algebra teacher used to always say subtracting a negative is bad, so add!
